#NaNoWriMo 2014-11-15 #WordWarGame Recap: 5 Hours 40 minutes, 8351 words

From the Write-Ins I've been attending, I realized that I write the most during Word Wars. I also realized that I need the downtime between Word Wars. I really benefitted from the social aspect of the Write-In I attended at Locust Moon. So I set out to create an optimal format to produce as much as possible. I played with some phrases and branded it a Word War Game. This was the format I chose for today.

15 minutes sprint writing. 835 words at 55.67 words per minute
15 minutes resetting.
20 minutes sprint writing. 1057 words at 52.85 words per minute
20 minutes resetting.
30 minutes sprint writing. 1313 words at 43.77 words per minute
30 minutes resetting.
45 minutes sprint writing. 2534 words at 56.31 words per minute
45 minutes resetting.
60 minutes sprint writing. 2612 words at 43.53 words per minute

I wondered if the increasing reset time was necessary. I'm glad I erred on the side of caution. It is absolutely necessary for me to take a reflective amount of time resetting (bio needs, coffee, water, etc.)

I'm calling it quits for today as I still have to make my Jawn-A-Day, do my final ModPo coursera peer assessments, and--you know--eat.

While I didn't accomplish my hopeful goal of catching up to par for NaNoWriMo, I did get over 8k words out today. Which, if I may pat myself on the back, is a hell of an accomplishment for someone who is the opposite of verbose.

I don't know what the next step is. I don't know that the 60 minute sprint was worth it since I saw a diminishing return of words per minute. 45 minutes may be my personal sweet spot.

I wonder if I should, when I next do this, do a sort of cool down to keep getting words out but also recognizing that I'm getting tired. So it would be 15, 20, 30, 45, 30, 20, 15. I'm not sure. I guess I can try next Saturday to see. In the meantime, I'll have to carve out smaller blocks throughout the week to keep catching up to par.
