Jawn-A-Day Manifesto
jawn, pron.
Pronunciation /dʒɔːn/
1. colloq. The subjective and objective case of third person singular neuter pronoun.
2. colloq. An art thingie.
THE IDEA
Hi friends, I've started doing an exercise where I make one jawn* per day.
Originally, this started with one sentence a day. Considering that lately I am writing one sentence poems, this equates to one poem a day.
The idea was to spend a percentage of every day freeing my creative mind.
Then, I started taking one photo a day.
While I was at it, I figured I'd draw a sketch a day.
Then, I thought, I'd just combine them into one jawn and post them.
In the future, I hope to incorporate other jawns into my jawn and make it an even more excellent jawn.
If I'm successful, after a month, I'll have 28-31 jawns. After a year, I'll have 365 jawns. That's many more jawns than if I hadn't done this exercise.
THE PITCH
I'd like to see as many people as possible making jawns because I think we need it, because I think many more people can make jawns than we realize, because I think it'd be fun, because I want us to see each other with more depth.
For now, I am just going to post a list of people who are making jawns at the bottom of this page. Maybe someday, I'll make something more formal. If you'd like me to list you here, please use the contact form after the jump to let me know.
Then, make your jawns and post them wherever you want and hashtag them #jawnaday.
MANIFESTO ADDENDUM, ANTEING UP, AND A THREAT
One of the things people say to me when I tell them they should make something is "Oh, I can't draw/write/blah blah."
To which I say, "It doesn't matter if you're good or bad."
When really I should be saying, "EFFing make something now!"
I joke. Mostly.
I get it. We're afraid of failure. We're afraid of being embarrassed. We're afraid of not measuring up to society's standards of beauty internalized into our psyches making our self-esteems twisted and malformed to the point of inaction. I get it.
So, I decided to up the ante... on myself.
See, I figure everyone reading this has written *something* in their lives (an email, a tweet, a facebook status update, a letter to the editor). I also figure that everyone reading this has doodled *something* in the margins of their homework. I also imagine that everyone reading this has taken at least 1 photo in their lives.
You know what i have never done in the entirety of my life? Composed a song.
So I'm challenging myself to compose a song a week. At the end of the week, I'll make a slideshow of my Jawns from the week and soundtrack it with said song.
So the next time I say that you should make something and you say you "can't" ... well... I am going to smack you upside the head and tell you "MAKE SOMETHING NOW!"
